Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup dark chocolate, chopped
  • 1 cup milk chocolate, chopped
  • 1 cup white chocolate, chopped
  • 4 cups heavy cream
  • 6 egg whites
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder for garnish

Instructions

  1. Melt the Dark Chocolate: Melt the dark chocolate in a heatproof bowl over simmering water; let cool slightly.
  2. Whip the Cream for Dark Chocolate Layer: Whip 1 cup of heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold half into the melted dark chocolate and set aside.
  3. Prepare the Milk Chocolate Layer: Repeat the process with the milk chocolate and another cup of whipped cream, then with the white chocolate and the remaining whipped cream.
  4. Whip Egg Whites: Whip egg whites with sugar and salt until stiff peaks form. Fold into each of the chocolate mixtures separately.
  5. Assemble the Mousse Layers: In a large trifle dish, layer the mousse mixtures, starting with dark chocolate, then milk, and finally white chocolate. Repeat until all mixtures are used.
  6. Chill for Perfection: Chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Before serving, garnish with chocolate shavings or cocoa powder.

Notes

Pair with fresh raspberries or strawberries for a balance of tartness. A scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream can elevate the experience.
