A rich and moist Texas sheet cake topped with velvety chocolate frosting, perfect for gatherings and family moments.

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a sheet pan.
  2. Combine the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Combine the butter, water, and cocoa powder in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Remove from heat.
  4. Pour the hot chocolate mixture into the bowl of dry ingredients and stir well.
  5. Add the eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla extract and mix until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared sheet pan, spreading it evenly.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Prepare the frosting by melting the remaining butter and adding cocoa, milk, and powdered sugar; stir until smooth and add vanilla.
  9. Pour the warm frosting over the cake and let it soak in before serving.

Notes

For extra richness in frosting, consider using heavy cream instead of milk.
