Delightful Swedish meatballs simmered in a creamy sauce, bringing warmth and comfort to your dinner table.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon butter (for frying)
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon flour

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, onion, milk, egg, salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Mix until well combined—don’t be afraid to get your hands into it!
  2. Form Meatballs: With your hands, form the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
  3. Sauté Meatballs: In a skillet, heat butter over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 7-10 minutes.
  4. Set Meatballs Aside: Remove the meatballs and set them aside on a plate.
  5. Create the Sauce Base: In the same skillet, sprinkle flour over the remaining drippings and cook for 1 minute.
  6. Whisk in Beef Broth: Slowly whisk in beef broth and bring to a simmer, cooking until slightly thickened.
  7. Add Sour Cream and Meatballs: Stir in sour cream and return meatballs to the skillet. Let them simmer for another 10 minutes.
  8. Serve! Serve the meatballs warm with lingonberry sauce and mashed potatoes.

Notes

For a complete Swedish experience, serve with a crisp green salad and a light-bodied red wine.
