A comforting casserole featuring sauerkraut, ground meat, and spices, perfect for sharing with loved ones.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups sauerkraut, drained
  • 1 pound ground pork or beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 teaspoon caraway seeds
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Heat the olive oil over medium heat in a large skillet. Add the chopped onions and minced garlic, sautéing until fragrant and the onions turn translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the ground meat to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula as it cooks, about 7-10 minutes.
  4. Stir in the drained sauerkraut, cooked rice, caraway seeds, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly combined, and let the mixture cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  5. Transfer the savory mixture to a greased casserole dish. If you’re using cheese, sprinkle it over the top for a deliciously gooey finish.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the casserole is heated through and the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  7. Remove from the oven, let it cool for a few minutes, serve warm, and relish the comforting flavors of your hearty creation!
