  • 1 cup buttermilk, room temperature
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. Sift together the flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.
  3. Combine the vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, food coloring, vanilla extract, and vinegar in another bowl.
  4. Mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  5. Fill the cupcake liners evenly with the batter.
  6. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool completely before frosting.
