Delightful and chewy homemade pretzel bites, perfect for dipping and sharing.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • Coarse sea salt (for sprinkling)
  • 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Form the dough: Stir in the flour and salt until a dough forms. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Rise the dough: Cover the dough with a towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 60 minutes, or until it doubles in size.
  4. Preheat your oven: Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C).
  5. Prepare the soda bath: In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water to a boil and add baking soda.
  6. Shape the bites: Divide the dough into small pieces and shape each piece into a bite-sized ball.
  7. Boil the bites: Boil each ball in the baking soda water for about 30 seconds and then remove with a slotted spoon.
  8. Brush and sprinkle: Place the boiled bites on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, brush with the beaten egg, and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
  9. Bake to perfection: Bake for about 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Ready to enjoy: Allow to cool slightly before serving.
