A delightful breakfast casserole that combines rich brioche or challah with a custardy egg mixture, sweetened with maple syrup and infused with cinnamon.

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf of bread (preferably brioche or challah)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Butter for greasing
  • Optional toppings: powdered sugar, fresh fruit, syrup

Instructions

  1. Grease the Baking Dish: Start by liberally greasing a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter.
  2. Cube Up the Bread: Cut your chosen bread into cubes and place in the greased baking dish.
  3. Whisk Together Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, maple syrup, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until combined.
  4. Soak the Bread: Pour the egg mixture over the bread, ensuring each piece is soaked.
  5. Refrigerate Overnight: Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
  6. Preheat the Oven: In the morning, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Bake the Casserole: Remove the wrap and bake uncovered for about 45-50 minutes.
  8. Serve and Enjoy: Serve warm topped with powdered sugar, fruit, or syrup.

Notes

Great to pair with bacon or sausage. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
