A nostalgic dessert filled with warm spices and topped with fluffy cream cheese icing, perfect for fall gatherings.

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Mix together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and salt.
  3. Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Mix in the vanilla extract.
  6. Combine the flour mixture and buttermilk, alternating and starting and ending with the flour.
  7. Divide the batter between the prepared pans.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks.
  10. Prepare the cream cheese frosting while the cakes cool.
  11. Frost the cooled cakes and serve.

Notes

Store leftover cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for about a week.
