Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed but still cold
  • ½ cup Nutella (or other chocolate-hazelnut spread)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)
  • Crushed hazelnuts, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Spread Nutella evenly over one sheet of puff pastry, leaving a ½-inch border.
  3. Place the second sheet of puff pastry over the first, aligning the edges, and press gently to seal.
  4. Cut the pastry into a large triangle to form the tree shape and trim off the bottom corners for the trunk.
  5. Slice horizontal cuts from the outer edges towards the center, leaving a middle section intact for the trunk.
  6. Twist each strip two to three times to form spiraled branches.
  7. Brush the surface with an egg wash made from beaten egg and water.
  8. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Let cool for 10 minutes, then dust with powdered sugar before serving.
  10. Serve warm with optional garnishes.

Notes
