A traditional Thai dessert featuring glutinous rice cooked in coconut milk and served with ripe mango slices.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup glutinous rice
  • 1 1/4 cups coconut milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 ripe mangoes
  • Sesame seeds or mung beans for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the glutinous rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak it in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  2. Steam the rice for about 20-30 minutes, or until it is cooked and tender.
  3. Prepare the coconut sauce by combining 1 cup of coconut milk, sugar, and salt in a saucepan, and heat until the sugar dissolves.
  4. Combine a portion of the coconut milk mixture with the cooked rice and let it sit for about 30 minutes.
  5. Slice the ripe mangoes into thin, elegant slices.
  6. Serve a generous portion of sticky rice on a plate, topped with mango slices, and drizzle with the remaining coconut sauce.

Notes

Make ahead by preparing the rice and coconut sauce in advance. Ensure to use ripe mangoes for the best flavor.
