A classic favorite dessert combining creamy vanilla pudding, ripe bananas, and crispy vanilla wafers that brings families together.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1 cup of heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup of cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
  • 1 box of vanilla wafers
  • 4 ripe bananas

Instructions

  1. Mix the Base Ingredients: In a medium saucepan, combine the milk, heavy cream, sugar, cornstarch, and salt over medium heat. Gently stir these ingredients together until they are thoroughly mixed.
  2. Thicken the Mixture: Continue to whisk the mixture until it starts to bubble and thicken. This will create the rich pudding base that we adore.
  3. Whisk the Egg Yolks: While the pudding thickens, take a separate bowl and whisk together the egg yolks until they are smooth and well-blended.
  4. Temper the Egg Yolks: Slowly pour some of the hot mixture into the bowl with the egg yolks, whisking continuously. This step is crucial as it prevents the eggs from scrambling. Once combined, return the mixture to the saucepan.
  5. Add Vanilla Magic: Add the vanilla extract to the saucepan and stir until it is well incorporated with the rest of the mixture.
  6. Layer the Dish: In a serving dish, start layering the vanilla wafers, then add slices of bananas, and finish with a generous layer of pudding. Repeat these layers until all ingredients are used.
  7. Chill and Set: Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, allowing the flavors to meld together and the pudding to set beautifully.
  8. Serve and Enjoy: When ready to serve, delight in the moment of digging into this delicious dessert.
