Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 1/2 cup fruit jam or filling of choice
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Powdered sugar (for icing)
  • Milk (for icing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Combine the flour, sugar, and salt in a mixing bowl. Cut in the cold, cubed butter until crumbly.
  3. Stir in cold water until a soft dough forms. Divide into discs and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Roll out one disc to 1/8 inch thick and cut into rectangles. Repeat with the second disc.
  5. Place one rectangle on a baking sheet, spoon jam in the center, and top with another rectangle. Seal edges with a fork.
  6. Brush the tops with beaten egg.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  8. Let cool and mix powdered sugar and milk for icing. Drizzle over pop tarts.

Notes

Ensure butter is cold for a flaky crust. Customize fillings to suit your taste.
