Delight in warm, fluffy fried dough dusted with powdered sugar, reminiscent of spirited summer fairs.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • Oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  2. Whisk the Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and melted butter until smooth and creamy.
  3. Combine the Mixtures: Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until a dough forms and everything is well incorporated.
  4. Knead the Dough: On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough for a few minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. Roll Out the Dough: Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick. Use a knife or cookie cutter to cut it into your desired shapes—squares, circles, or even whimsical forms!
  6. Heat the Oil: In a deep fryer or a large pot, heat oil to 350°F (175°C). This is when the magic begins!
  7. Fry to Perfection: Carefully drop the dough pieces into the hot oil in batches, frying them until they are golden brown—about 2-3 minutes on each side.
  8. Drain and Cool: Once fried, remove the pieces from the oil and allow them to drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  9. Dust with Powdered Sugar: Finally, dust your delicious fried dough generously with powdered sugar before serving! They’re best enjoyed warm.

Notes

Serve with raspberry jam or chocolate sauce for dipping. Best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days.
