Delightful homemade cinnamon rolls that are golden, fluffy, and filled with rich brown sugar and fragrant cinnamon.

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter (melted)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter (for filling)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for icing)
  • 12 tablespoons milk (for icing)

Instructions

  1. Proof the yeast in warm milk for about 5 minutes until bubbly.
  2. Combine the flour, sugar, and salt in a mixing bowl.
  3. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough for 5-10 minutes until smooth.
  5. Let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour until doubled in size.
  6. Roll out the dough into a rectangle on a floured surface.
  7. Spread the remaining butter over the dough, then sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon.
  8. Roll up the dough tightly into a log and cut into 1-inch thick rolls.
  9. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish and let them rise for 30 minutes.
  10. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Mix powdered sugar with milk for the icing until smooth.
  12. Drizzle the icing over warm cinnamon rolls before serving.

Notes

Best served warm with coffee or tea. You can add nuts, raisins, or chocolate chips for variations.
