Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup beef or vegetable broth

Instructions

  1. Browning the meat: In a large pot, brown the ground beef or turkey over medium heat. Be sure to break it apart with a wooden spoon as it cooks. Once beautifully browned, drain any excess fat.
  2. Sautéing the aromatics: Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, and bell pepper to the pot. Sauté until soft, about 5 minutes.
  3. Mixing in the beans and tomatoes: Stir in the kidney beans, black beans, and crushed tomatoes.
  4. Adding the flavors: Sprinkle in the chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Stir everything well to distribute spices.
  5. Simmering the chili: Pour in the broth and stir to combine. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and let simmer for at least 30 minutes.
  6. Serving up your creation: Serve the chili hot with your favorite toppings like shredded cheese or sour cream.
