Delicate and crisp French macarons with a chewy interior, filled with luscious buttercream or ganache.

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup almond flour
  • 3 large egg whites
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Buttercream or ganache for filling

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 315°F (160°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Sift together the powdered sugar and almond flour in a bowl.
  3. Whip the egg whites and cream of tartar until frothy, then gradually add the granulated sugar.
  4. Fold in the almond flour mixture and any optional food coloring.
  5. Transfer the batter to a piping bag and pipe small circles onto the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Let the macarons sit at room temperature for 30-60 minutes until they form a skin.
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes until done, then allow to cool completely.
  8. Fill the cooled macarons with buttercream or ganache and sandwich them together.

Notes

Store macarons in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week. For optimal flavor, let them rest for a day before enjoying.
