  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup filling of choice (beef, chicken, cheese, or vegetables)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Mix the dry ingredients: In a bowl, combine the flour and salt.
  2. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Bind the dough by stirring in the water, a little at a time, until it comes together.
  4. Shape the dough into small balls and roll each into a circle, about 5-6 inches in diameter.
  5. Fill each circle with a spoonful of your chosen filling.
  6. Seal the edges with a fork or your fingers to ensure they are well sealed.
  7. Bake the empanadas at 375°F (190°C) on a baking sheet for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Cool slightly before serving.
