A comforting and hearty shepherd’s pie filled with savory ground meat, vegetables, and topped with creamy mashed potatoes.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef or lamb
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup peas
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil for cooking

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Heat a drizzle of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and diced carrots, cooking until softened (about 5 minutes).
  3. Add minced garlic and your ground beef or lamb to the skillet. Cook until browned.
  4. Stir in the peas, tomato paste, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer for 5-10 minutes.
  5. Pour the meat mixture into a baking dish and spread the mashed potatoes on top.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
  7. Let the dish cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to three days or frozen for up to three months.
