A comforting Southern classic, this dish combines creamy grits with Cajun-seasoned shrimp for a delightful and flavorful meal.

  • 1 cup grits
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (like cheddar)
  • 1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Boil water and cook grits: In a pot, bring the 4 cups of water to a boil. Once boiling, add in the 1 cup of grits and cook according to package instructions until creamy. Stir in the 1 cup of shredded cheese and 2 tablespoons of butter until melted and well combined.
  2. Sauté shrimp: In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the 1 lb of shrimp and sprinkle generously with the Cajun seasoning. Cook until the shrimp turn pink and are fully cooked through, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Season shrimp: Once cooked, carefully season the shrimp with salt and pepper to taste, adjusting based on your preference.
  4. Serve and garnish: Spoon the creamy cheesy grits onto plates or into bowls and serve the Cajun shrimp on top. Garnish with fresh green onions for a pop of color and flavor.
