A simple yet delightful frosting recipe that transforms any cookie into a work of art, perfect for special occasions or casual treats.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened (not melted)
  • 3 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream (or whole milk for a lighter version)
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • Small pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Soften the unsalted butter at room temperature for about 1 hour until it is soft but not melted and place in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Beat the butter with an electric mixer on medium speed until it turns pale and fluffy, about 1–2 minutes.
  3. Add the vanilla extract and small pinch of salt, mixing briefly for about 15 seconds until combined.
  4. Incorporate the sifted powdered sugar in three parts, mixing on low speed after each addition to prevent puffing, then increase to medium speed until thickened.
  5. Add the heavy cream one tablespoon at a time, beating well until the frosting is smooth and spreadable.
  6. Taste the frosting and adjust as necessary, adding more cream for a softer texture or extra salt if too sweet.

Notes

Store leftover frosting in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week. It can be frozen for up to three months.
