A nostalgic and buttery pound cake that bakes in a cold oven for a beautifully textured treat.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 6 large eggs
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C).
  2. Cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl.
  5. Alternate adding the dry ingredients and the milk to the wet mixture.
  6. Stir in the vanilla extract until well blended.
  7. Prepare a greased and floured tube pan and pour the batter in.
  8. Place the pan in the cold oven and set the temperature to 325°F (163°C).
  9. Bake for 1 hour and 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  10. Cool the cake in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

For a twist, add lemon zest or nuts. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days at room temperature.
