  • 2 slices of cheese (American, cheddar, or Gruyère)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Optional fillings: crispy bacon, fresh tomato slices, or ripe avocado

Instructions

  1. Heat your skillet over medium heat.
  2. Butter one side of a slice of bread.
  3. Stack the cheese slices on the buttered side.
  4. Add any optional fillings you desire.
  5. Prepare the second slice of bread with butter on one side.
  6. Toast the sandwich until the bottom is golden brown, about 3-4 minutes.
  7. Flip the sandwich carefully and cook the other side until golden brown and cheese is melted, another 3-4 minutes.
  8. Serve the sandwich with a side of soup or salad.
