Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Whisk the dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
  2. Mix the wet ingredients: In another bowl, mix the milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract until well blended.
  3. Combine wet and dry ingredients: Gently fold the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just mixed.
  4. Roll out the dough: On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/2-inch thickness.
  5. Cut into donut shapes: Using a donut cutter or two round cookie cutters, cut out donut shapes.
  6. Heat the oil: In a deep fryer or a large pot, heat vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Fry the donuts: Carefully fry the donuts in batches until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes per side.
  8. Drain the donuts: Remove the donuts and let them drain on paper towels.
  9. Prepare the glaze: Mix powdered sugar, 2-3 tablespoons of milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  10. Glaze the donuts: Dip the cooled donuts in the glaze, allowing the excess to drip off before placing them on a cooling rack.
