A rich and velvety chocolate mousse cake that promises pure bliss with every bite, perfect for any celebration.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 8 ounces dark chocolate, melted
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup chocolate ganache (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a round cake pan to ensure your cake comes out perfectly.
  2. Prepare the Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Mix well to ensure an even blend.
  3. Cream Butter and Sugar: In another bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. This will create a delightful base for your cake.
  4. Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in the eggs one at a time, making sure each is fully incorporated, then stir in the vanilla extract for that extra depth of flavor.
  5. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the creamed mixture alternately with the milk. Mix until just combined; overmixing can make your cake dense.
  6. Bake the Cake: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool completely before proceeding.
  7. Whip the Cream: While the cake cools, whip the heavy cream to soft peaks. This will give your mousse its lovely airy texture.
  8. Mix Chocolate and Sugar: In another bowl, mix the melted chocolate with powdered sugar until smooth. This chocolate combination will be the heart of your mousse.
  9. Fold in the Whipped Cream: Gently fold the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture until fully combined. Be careful not to deflate the whipped cream; this adds the mousse’s lightness.
  10. Chill and Serve: Once the cake is completely cooled, spread the mousse over the top and let it set in the fridge for at least 2 hours. Just before serving, drizzle with chocolate ganache for an extra touch of decadence.
