Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1 large egg (beaten)
  • Coarse sea salt (for sprinkling)
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit until foamy, about 5-10 minutes.
  2. Combine dry ingredients: Once your yeast is frothy, mix in the flour and salt until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Let it rise: Place the kneaded dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled.
  5. Prepare the boiling solution: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Boil a large pot of water and add baking soda.
  6. Shape the pretzel bites: Roll the risen dough into small balls, about the size of golf balls.
  7. Boil the pretzel bites: Carefully boil the dough balls in the baking soda solution for 30 seconds each.
  8. Bake to perfection: Place boiled bites on a baking sheet, brush with beaten egg, sprinkle with coarse sea salt, and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden.
  9. Melt and drizzle: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt chocolate chips and caramel sauce together until smooth. Drizzle over pretzel bites.
  10. Serve warm: Best enjoyed fresh out of the oven, share with friends and enjoy!
