A vibrant and flavorful Carne Asada, marinated flank or skirt steak is perfect for gatherings, served with tortillas and fresh cilantro.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds flank or skirt steak
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup lime juice
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Fresh cilantro, for garnish
  • Tortillas, for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Marinade: In a bowl, mix together the olive oil, lime juice, minced garlic, cumin, chili powder, salt, and black pepper until well combined. This marinade is the key to infusing the steak with all those vibrant flavors.
  2. Marinate the Steak: Take the flank or skirt steak and place it in a shallow dish or resealable plastic bag. Pour the marinade over the steak, ensuring it’s evenly coated. Let it marinate for at least 60 minutes (or overnight if you want even more flavor).
  3. Preheat Your Grill: Prepare your grill or skillet by preheating it over high heat. A properly heated surface is crucial for achieving that delicious sear on your steak.
  4. Grill the Steak: Once the grill is hot, carefully place the steak on it. Grill for about 5-7 minutes on each side, depending on your desired doneness. Remember, the goal is a perfectly charred crust while maintaining a juicy interior.
  5. Let the Steak Rest: After cooking, remove the steak from the grill and let it rest for 5 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute, ensuring every bite is tender and succulent.
  6. Slice and Serve: Using a sharp knife, slice the steak against the grain into thin strips. This technique enhances tenderness. Serve your Carne Asada with warm tortillas and garnish with fresh cilantro for a burst of color and flavor.

Notes

For added enjoyment, serve alongside grilled peppers and onions, homemade guacamole, or fresh pico de gallo.
