Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1½ cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips or chunks
  • 1 pint fresh strawberries (hulled and halved if very tall)
  • 1½ cups buttercream or cream cheese frosting
  • 12 round candies or chocolate-covered malt balls (for noses)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Mix the melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until glossy and thick, then stir in eggs and vanilla extract.
  3. Add the sifted flour, cocoa powder, and salt to the wet ingredients, stirring until combined. Fold in chocolate chips.
  4. Bake the brownies for 28 to 32 minutes, then cool completely in the pan.
  5. Slice the brownies into approximately twelve 2×2-inch squares.
  6. Pipe frosting on the top half of each brownie square to create beards.
  7. Add a round candy or chocolate malt ball for each gnome’s nose.
  8. Place hulled strawberries on top of each brownie square to form hats.
  9. Serve immediately or refrigerate in an airtight container.
