A comforting dessert made with layers of fluffy cake, rich pastry cream, and luscious chocolate ganache, perfect for family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup vanilla pastry cream
  • 4 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon corn syrup

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cream together the softened butter and sugar until fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time.
  4. Mix in the vanilla extract and alternately add the dry mixture and milk to the egg mixture.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes.
  6. Once baked, allow cakes to cool in pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Once cooled, place one cake layer on a serving plate and spread the pastry cream on top.
  8. In a saucepan, gently heat the cream until simmering and pour it over the chopped chocolate and corn syrup, stirring until smooth.
  9. Pour the ganache over the top of the cake, allowing it to cascade down the sides.
  10. Refrigerate the cake for at least an hour before serving.
