A rich dessert with layers of crispy phyllo pastry, nuts, and sweet honey syrup, evoking warmth and nostalgia.

Ingredients

  • 1 package of phyllo dough
  • 2 cups of chopped nuts (walnuts, pistachios, or almonds)
  • 1 cup of unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup of honey

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Mix the chopped nuts and ground cinnamon in a bowl.
  3. Unroll the phyllo dough and cut it to fit your baking dish.
  4. Brush a layer of melted butter on the bottom of the dish and layer 8 sheets of phyllo dough, brushing each with butter.
  5. Sprinkle a layer of the nut mixture over the top and follow with two more sheets of buttered phyllo. Repeat until all ingredients are used.
  6. Cut the assembled baklava into diamond or square shapes.
  7. Bake in your preheated oven for about 45-50 minutes, or until golden brown.
  8. Combine sugar, water, and honey in a saucepan and bring to a boil, then simmer for about 10 minutes. Stir in vanilla extract.
  9. Pour the hot syrup over the baklava while still warm and allow it to soak before cooling completely.

Notes

Store baklava at room temperature in an airtight container for up to a week or refrigerate for up to 2 weeks. Can be frozen for up to a month.
