Deliciously versatile arepas, crisp on the outside and soft inside, perfect for any filling.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups arepa flour (masa harina)
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Oil for cooking

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a bowl, combine arepa flour, salt, and water. Mix until a dough forms.
  2. Shape the Dough: Divide the dough into balls and shape them into patties, about ½ inch thick.
  3. Heat the Skillet: Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat, ensuring it’s the right temperature for a delightful sear.
  4. Cook the Arepas: Cook the arepas for about 5-7 minutes on each side, until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Serve Warm: Serve warm with your choice of fillings. The options are endless!

Notes

Use warm water for a softer texture. Don’t overwork the dough for light, fluffy arepas. Feel free to experiment with fillings.
