Delicious Apple Pie Bars that capture the essence of a traditional apple pie in a simple, portable format.

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 4 cups thinly sliced apples
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Optional: caramel sauce for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven and Prepare the Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×13-inch pan with parchment paper.
  2. Mix the Crust Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix together the flour, granulated sugar, and salt.
  3. Cut in the Butter: Start cutting in the cold cubed butter until the mixture becomes crumbly.
  4. Press the Crust into the Pan: Take about 2/3 of this crumbly mixture and firmly press it into the bottom of your prepared pan.
  5. Prepare the Apple Filling: Toss the thinly sliced apples with the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cornstarch, lemon juice, and vanilla extract.
  6. Spread the Apple Filling: Once the crust has finished baking, spread the apple filling evenly over the hot crust.
  7. Sprinkle Remaining Crumble: Take the remaining crumble mixture and sprinkle it over the apple filling.
  8. Bake to Perfection: Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
  9. Cool and Slice: Let the bars cool completely in the pan before slicing.
  10. Drizzle and Serve: Drizzle with caramel sauce just before serving.

Notes

These bars can be stored at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerated for up to a week.
