Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3 cups sliced apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Mix together the flour, granulated sugar, and salt in a bowl until combined.
  3. Cut in the softened butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs, making sure not to overwork the dough.
  4. Press half of the dough into the bottom of the prepared baking dish, creating an even layer.
  5. Combine the sliced apples with lemon juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in another bowl.
  6. Layer the apple mixture evenly over the crust, allowing the sweet aroma to tantalize your senses.
  7. Crumble the remaining dough over the apple filling, ensuring it covers the apples well.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  9. Cool before cutting into squares and serving. Enjoy the anticipation as the heavenly smell fills your kitchen!
