A heartwarming apple pie with a flaky crust and spiced apple filling, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 pounds apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 package (14.1 ounces) double-crust pie pastry
  • 1 egg (for egg wash, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Mix the sliced apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice in a large bowl. Mix well and let it sit to meld.
  3. Roll out one of the pie crusts and fit it into a 9-inch pie pan.
  4. Pour the apple mixture into the prepared pie crust, dot with butter, and cover with the second pie crust.
  5. Cut slits in the top crust for steam vents, and brush with beaten egg if desired.
  6. Bake for 15 minutes at 425°F, then reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 35 to 45 minutes.
  7. Cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing.

Notes

For a crispier crust, blind-bake the bottom crust before adding the filling.
