Delightfully soft sugar cookies that are perfect for any occasion and can be customized with various decorations.

Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 3 to 4 cups royal icing or frosting for decorating
  • Sprinkles for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to create that ideal baking environment for our cookies.
  2. In a small bowl, stir together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
  3. Cream together the softened butter, white sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg until fully incorporated.
  5. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients until just combined.
  6. Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls and place them onto ungreased cookie sheets. Flatten each ball gently.
  7. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. Let the cookies cool on wire racks for a few minutes.
  9. Decorate generously with royal icing or frosting, and top with colorful sprinkles.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. Undecorated cookies can be frozen for up to 3 months.
