A moist and luscious chocolate cake made with sour cream, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Combine all the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Mix in the eggs, sour cream, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed for about 2 minutes.
  4. Incorporate the hot water until well combined.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the pans.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  8. Frost with chocolate frosting or a simple glaze and garnish as desired.

Notes

Store leftover cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or refrigerate for up to a week.
