A sweet and savory onion jam that enhances any meal, perfect for cheeseboards and burgers.

Ingredients

  • 4 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the thinly sliced onions to the skillet and sauté slowly, stirring occasionally, for about 30-40 minutes.
  3. Once the onions are caramelized, stir in the brown sugar and apple cider vinegar.
  4. Continue cooking for an additional 15-20 minutes, allowing the mixture to thicken.
  5. Once thickened, season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Transfer the jam to sterilized jars for canning, or let it cool and store it in the refrigerator.

Notes

Patience is critical for caramelizing onions; rushing won’t yield the desired flavor. This jam can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or canned for longer preservation.
