Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • Chocolate shavings or whipped cream for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients: whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl.
  3. Cream the butter and sugar together in a large bowl until fluffy.
  4. Incorporate the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition; stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Combine the wet and dry ingredients, alternating with the whole milk, until just combined.
  6. Bake the batter in the prepared baking dish for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool the cake completely before proceeding.
  8. Prepare the milk mixture by whisking together the evaporated and sweetened condensed milk.
  9. Poke holes in the cooled cake with a fork and pour the milk mixture evenly over it.
  10. Let the cake soak in the fridge for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  11. Serve chilled, topped with chocolate shavings or whipped cream if desired.

Notes

For the best flavor, allow the cake to soak overnight.
