Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients: flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Combine the wet ingredients: add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla to dry ingredients and beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  4. Introduce the boiling water carefully, stirring until combined.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
  6. Bake in the oven for 30-35 minutes, checking doneness with a toothpick.
  7. Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  8. Layer the cooled cakes with cherry pie filling and top with more filling for presentation.
